Paola Bracho, rich, selfish and cunning woman, comes to town of Cancun to have fun with her lover while pretending to be away at the hospital in Houston. While in club, she notices a girl working there that looks a lot like her, named Paulina. Paulina's mother is gravely ill and she needs money for her medicine, so Paulina accepts to switch places with Paola once for money.

Paola meets Alessandro Farina, a multimillioner and casino owner. Osvaldo, Paulina's fiance, leaves her and goes for Mexico without telling her. Paola, in order to make sure Paulina switches with her at the Bracho house so she could have fun with her new lover, frames Paulina for theft of her emerald bracelet.

Paola blackmails Paulina, that if she wants to avoid jail she has to switch with her. With her mother now dead and her fiance long gone, Paulina seems to have no other choice. Paola uses the next few days to train her into acting more like her. After 6 days Paulina arrives at the Bracho house where many of Paola's enemies await her.

It's her first day at the Bracho estate and Paulina already encounters many problems. Paola left the family in complete chaos, and she decides it's up to her to fix their relations and grandma's drinking problem. She gets blackmailed by Paola's lover, a painter who is obssesed with her. Paulina begins to realize just how terrible her double is. Meanwhile, Carlos Daniel and his brother Rodrigo try to figure out some solution to the economic danger their ceramic factory is in. Can Paulina figure out all this mess she got into, and resist not falling in love with Paola's husband, Carlos Daniel?

Paulina and Carlos kiss, but she rejects him. Paola is having fun with Alessandro. Paulina hires a specialist to cure grandma Piedad's addiction. Rodrigo, Carlos's brother, comes to visit with his wife Patricia. Estefania gets angry over Paulina's gift, a night gown, and slaps her. Piedad steals whiskey from Paola's room and gets drunk .

Paulina gives presents to servants, even Fidelina, to her disbelief, gets one, but refues to receive it. Carlos asks Paulina not to visit the factory, so she doesn't upset Rodrigo. Luciano meets in Paris Gema Duran, Carlos's cousin who's in love with him. Paola gets scared of death because of a dream and wants to leave Monaco. She gets drunk behind a wheel and gets in an accident like the one from her dream. Painter still blaickmails her over the phone. She goes to his apartment to confront him, but he tries to molest her, when he discovers she doesn't have Paola's birth mark.

Paola and Alessandro are taken to hospital. He can't move his legs and she's in a coma. Grandma Piedad finds out about factory closing and unites with Paulina to prevent it from happening. Paulina goes to the bank to ask for a loan for factory.

Paulina advises Estefania how to fix her marriage with Willy, but she doesn't turst her and thinks she's just trying to mock her. Paulina goes to the factory to meet the workers and try to convice them not to strike and support the family in their attempt to save the factory. Carlos Daniel gets in fight with her and even offers her divorce. Latita informs her about a telegram from her rival Gema.

Gema is back, and all over Carlos Daniel. Paulina is very jealous, and it makes him happy.

Painter Donato D'Angeli comes again to blackmail Paulina. She decides to put a stop to it. Paola gets operated and they barely manage to save her life. Piedad stops her grandsons from closing the factory. Carlistos looks very ill and everyone gets worried, they even call a doctor, but it turns out he was just faking it to avoid school because other kids were bullying him.

Gema and Carlos Daniel make out and get caught by Rodrigo. Paulina stops a worker strike at the factory. Luciano Alcantara is trying to get close to Paulina so he could blackmail her, but gets seen by Carlos at the front gate.

Gema is seducing Carlos Daniel, and instignates a fight between him and Paulina. Factory banquet is held and everyone is present. City wants to buy a part of the factory land in order to build a road there. Paulina is trying to convince Rodrigo to return to the factory. Painter comes to the house and meets with Estefania. After the fight with Paulina, Carlos decides to go to Gema.

Carlos Daniel gets drunk and spends night at Gema's. Paulina travels and negotiates bussiness deals for the factory. Paola is recovering from her injuries at the hospital in Monaco. Painter comes to factory to reveal his affair with Paola to her husband, but before he can explain anything Carlos beats him up. Paulina return from the travel, but Carlos is angry at her and doesn't go to the airport to pick her up, but instead goes to Gema's place.

Carlos is mad beacuse his wife gives more attention to bussines than him. Corrupted city official offers Brachos too little money for their factory land, until Paulina and Piedad threaten to speak to his superiors, and he backs down and doubles his offer. Carlos and Rodrigo go to visit a millionaire who made fortune with oil, Douglas Maldonado, but he chases them away. Paulina gets threating letters from Luciano Alcantara.

Luciano blackmails Paulina, but she refuses to cooperate. Estefania invites Gema to Carlos's birthday party. Painter calls Carlos and tells him to look thgrough her stuff for evidence of infidelity. He finds a photo of Osvaldo in er drawer. Paulina goes to visit millionaire Douglas Maldonado to seek loan for the factory. He refuses to receive her, but she doesn't give up. He's impressed with her honesty and decides to help her.

Carlos confronts Paulina about Osvaldo's photo. Lalita defends her and claims the photo is hers. Carlos and Rodrigo find out about Maldonado's loan, and Carlos gets mad at Paulina.

Paulina receives telegram from Paola. Maldonado makes it a condition that Paulina becomes an advisor in the factory, or he won't give them the loan.

Rodrigo decides to leave the factory and Mexico. Luciano sends an anonymous letter to Carlos to make him suspect Paola. Paulina meets him and gives him 200k pesos, but he still wants more money.

Paulina is with the kids at the pool. Carlos wonder when did she learn how to swim, and what happened with her birthmark. Paola goes to visit Alessandro where he tells her they'll be soon leaving for Acapulco, but now when he's disabled she wants to find a way to get rid of him. Factory need 20 new female employees, and Leandro ask can his girlfriend Viviana have a job. Carlitos goes to his friend's ranch.

Paola calls Paulina. Carlitos falls off a horse on the ranch. Willy starts flirting with Viviana. Estefania chases Paulina from the hospital, but Carlitos wants her back and falls out of bed while he was alone in the room.

Willy continues flirting with Viviana. Paulina goes back to the hospital. Carlitos gets an operation, but complications occur and he might not be able to walk again. Gema comes with Carlos to visit him.

Gema visits Carlitos and scares him that he might stay disabled. Carlitos refuses to use crutches. Estefania finds Willy's love letter for Viviana, and demands from Carlos that he fires her. Since he won't she quits instead. Leandro gets in a fight with Willy over Viviana.

Painter comes in front of the mansion and wants to blackmail her again, but they make a deal that she'll visit him and tell him the entire thruth later. Paulina convinces Carlitos to start eating again and to use the crutches. Douglas is recovering in the countryside and sends Paulina a letter. Gema wants to start working as a sectretary in the factory. Rodrigo still refuses to come back. Carlos wants Paulina to go to the doctor to determine wether she's really ill or not. He also becomes enraged when he finds out from the bank she wrote someone a check for 200k pesos.

Paulina must go to bank cos they noticed a difference in her handwritting on checks. Viviana is mad at Leandro cos he uncovered that Willy tried to secretly raise her salary. Paulina buys a car for Estefania & Willy so they would reconcile, but reveals they'll have to pay for it themselves. Veronica applies for the secretary job. Estefania in rage reveals to Piedad about her husbands affair with Paola.
