A beautiful young girl named Gabriela and her uncle follow towards Ilhéus in search of a better life. Nacib, the owner of the local bar becomes furious to learn that his cook, Filomena, will leave Ilhéus. The Mayor Ramiro Bastos orders the priest to perform an holy procession to make rain fall in Ilhéus and stop the drought that threatens the local main product: cocoa.

Nacib takes Gabriela as his cook at the "Vesúvio" bar. Maria Machadão calls her girls to help with the holy mantle that they will take to the procession. After bathing in the public fountain, Gabriela starts calling the colonels' attention. Gabriela receives an unexpected proposal.

Father Cecílio doesn't approve the presence of the Bataclã girls in the procession. Sinházinha intervenes in favor of Maria Machadão. Berto asks Lindinalva in marriage. Colonel Melk becomes infuriated when Malvina says that she wants to attend college. Nacib and Gabriela's relationship becomes stronger everyday.

Colonel Jesuíno mistreats Sinhazinha and remains brute towards his wife. Malvina asks her father to go to college but Colonel Melk denies her request. Nacib decides to give a dress to Gabriela. Sinhazinha suffers from a painful toothache and Doroteia suggests her to look for the new dentist in Ilhéus, Dr. Osmundo. Gabriela takes Nacib's lunch to the bar. Doroteia asks her son to beat Zarolha and make her stop wanting to attend the procession.

Gabriela refuses to marry Clement and he stays devastated. Malvina warns Gerusa that she will read a forbidden novel. Amâncio tells Berto to give a lesson to Zarolha and make her change her mind about the procession. Sinhazinha becomes disturbed by the presence of Dr. Osmundo, who discovers that his patient is married. Nacib and Gabriela spend the night together.

Gabriela says she likes Nacib and Arminda suggests that she should marry him and become a lady. Sinhazinha asks Jesuíno for a kiss, who finds ridiculous the attitude of his wife. The teacher Josué advises Osmundo to avoid problems and leave Sinhazinha alone. Zarolha realizes that Nacib is different towards her and suspects he's staying with someone else. Gerusa cares about Malvina's feminist ideas. Nacib and Gabriela sleep together again. Zarolha goes to the Mayor's house and demands respect for the Bataclã girls.

Ramiro Bastos admires Zarolha's boldness and promises to help her. Doroteia declares war on the Bataclã girls. Sinhazinha leaves the dentist's office enchanted with Osmundo. Nacib becomes jealous of Gabriela for serving food at the bar. Maria Machadão announces a sex strike and leaves the men of Ilhéus mad with desire.

Men of Ilhéus rebel against Bataclã's sex strike. Zarolha proposes to break the strike for Nacib but he refuses, telling her to support the attitude of the other girls. Berto tries to kiss Lindinalva but she refuses. Colonel Jesuíno accompanies his wife Sinhazinha to the dentist's office and leaves Dr. Osmundo impressed with his rudeness. Josué talks to Malvina about her essay on women rigths. Osmundo asks if Sinhazinha is happy and she cries.

Berto concludes that the only way to stop the strike of the Bataclã girls is convincing the wives of Ilhéus to accept them in the procession. Maria Machadão warns Zarolha that Nacib must have another woman. Berto tries to force his fiancé Lindinalva, who manages to run away and tell her father. Berto's father, Amâncio, promises Lindinalva's father that his son will marry as soon as possible. Mundinho Falcão arrives at Ilhéus.

The crowd cheers the rain that falls on Ilhéus. Ramiro dislikes the presence of Mundinho in the city and the fact that he might interfere with his post as Mayor. Mundinho becomes enthusiastic about the idea of being opposition leader. Arminda tells Miss Pirangi that Nacib and Gabriela are sleeping together. Zarolha finds Nacib and Gabriela kissing and promises to kill her.

Osmundo becomes outraged to learn that Sinhazinha is beaten by her husband and kisses her passionately. Zarolha asks Miss Pirangi for advise and decides that she will make a scandal if Nacib doesn't appear tonight at Bataclã. Josué invites Malvina to be her date at the ball. Colonel Amâncio and Berto await the arrival of Juvenal at the train station. Doroteia warns Juvenal that he will go to Ramiro Bastos' house to meet with his granddaughter Gerusa, his future wife.

Zarolha tells Nacib that she will leave Ilhéus. Nacib declares himself to Gabriela. Ramiro is furious to read in the newspaper about the precarious situation of the port of Ilhéus. Sinhazinha tells Jesuíno that she doesn't feel good, but he forces her to have sex. Ramiro discovers that Mundinho is funding the newspaper and declares him his nemesis. Juvenal invites Gerusa to the ball.

Nacib says goodbye to Zarolha. The newspaper's editor warns Mundinho that Ramiro Bastos is a dangerous man but Mundinho states that he will face Ramiro no matter what. Lindinalva's parents forbid her from going to the ball before the wedding. Osmundo apologizes to Sinhazinha for the kiss and asks her to come back to the office to complete the treatment. Gerusa and Mundinho delight each other and Ramiro realizes that he must set them apart.

Ramiro and Mundinho exchange insults at the ball. Josué feels jealous of Malvina for seeing her dance with Berto. Lindinalva's parents warn her to take care of the family business while they travel to Itabuna. Gerusa and Mundinho think about each other. Gerusa's father, Alfredo, arrives from Salvador with bad news. Ramiro is furious to learn that Alfredo didn't get any funds from the governor to fix the roads. Osmundo and Sinhazinha kiss passionately.

Sinhazinha and Osmundo say they are in love with each other. Tonico lies to Nacib, saying that he has no interest in Gabriela. Mundinho tries to approach Gerusa, but she runs away, following the guidelines of his grandfather. The carriage in which Lindinalva's parents traveled collides with a truck on the road. Ramiro is furious to learn that the accident with the carriage was caused by a hole in the road. Mundinho sends Douglas denounce the incompetence of Ramiro in the newspaper. Sinhazinha refuses to have sex with Jesuíno.

Jesuíno rapes Sinhazinha. Nacib feels jealous of Gabriela for seeing his clients always looking at her. Ramiro realizes the interest of Gerusa for Mundinho and threatens to put her granddaughter in a convent. Doroteia advises Lindinalva to live with another woman to preserve her honor until she marries Berto. Maria Machadão hires Anabela and Prince Sandra to perform at Bataclã. Lindinalva says she will take care of her parents' cabinet but Berto doesn't approve. Zulmira alerts Lindinalva about Berto's behavior and advises the girl to look for another place to stay. Sinhazinha reveals to the other church ladies of Ilhéus that she has not confessed in the church for a long time. Nacib asks Gabriela in marriage.

Gabriela refuses Nacib's request. The women in the church ask why Sinhazinha hasn't confessed yet. Jesuíno warns Sinhazinha that he will travel. Lindinalva sells a doll to Fagundes and borrows money from her godmother. Mundinho tries to approach the city men to win some political allies. Gerusa asks Malvina for the adult book she has been reading. Berto forces Lindinalva to sleep with him. Nacib gives heels to Gabriela so she could wear during the cinema.

Sinhazinha's maid starts suspecting her lady's absence for so long. Juvenal tells Teodora he will only lie with the woman he loves. Lindinalva becomes afraid of Berto not marrying her after the two had slept together. Anabela debuts, dancing the dance of the seven veils and makes the colonels lose their breath. Mundinho asks Josué to help him meet Gerusa and the teacher arranges a date at the cinema. Nacib takes Gabriela to the cinema. Mundinho sits next to Gerusa during the movie and puts his hand over hers.

Gerusa asks the teacher to switch places with her in the cinema. Olga tells Ramiro that Gerusa met Mundinho at the cinema. Sinhazinha is afraid that her maid might discover her affair with Osmundo. Gabriela tells Nacib that she doesn't need gifts to be happy with him. Neia follows Sinhazinha and sees her going to Osmundo's office. Berto pays Lindinalva's mortage and forces her to sleep with him dressed as a bride. Ramiro asks Gerusa about the date with Mundinho at the movies. Gerusa confesses to her mother that she is attracted by Mundinho. Mundinho faces the Mayor and warns him that he will marry Gerusa.

Neia blackmails Sinhazinha into giving her clothes in exchange for her silence. Ramiro demands Juvenal to flirt with Gerusa. After discovering that Berto is sleeping with Lindinalva, Doroteia determines that her grandson can no more marry her. Amâncio tells Berto to go hide on colonel Melk's farm. Malvina ends her relationship with Josué. Juvenal advises Berto to marry Lindinalva despise her not being a virgin anymore. Malvina promises Mundinho to help him meet with Gerusa.

Osmundo promises to flee with Sinhazinha and says that they will be happy together. Florzinha and Quinquina suspect that Sinhazinha is cheating on Colonel Jesuíno. Gabriela climbs a house and leaves all Ilhéus stunned with her attitude.

Nacib asks Gabriela get off the roof and complains about Gabriela being to wild. Tonic forces Olga to confess at church. Berto explains to Fagundes why is hidden and sets his eyes on another virgin girl. Clemente listens to Berto telling Fagundes about Nacib and Gabriela and decides to go to Ilhéus. Mundinho informs the colonels that he managed to obtain the funds to improve the road from Ilhéus to Itabuna. Glória sets another date with Professor Josué. Sinhazinha comes home late and finds ou that her husband arrived home early from the trip. Nacib proposes again to Gabriela.

Nacib celebrates the upcoming wedding. Mundinho Falcão and Gerusa kiss. Colonel Ramiro becomes furious to read the newspaper's new about Mundinho. A new girl arrives at Bataclã. Nacib invites Tonico to be his best man at his wedding. Osmundo and Sinhazinha's plan to runaway starts. Doroteia suspects that Sinhazinha is cheating her husband and prepares a plan. Colonel Jesuíno beats his wife and breaks her most valuable asset.

Colonel Ramiro and Maria Machadão tells stories from their past. Tonico tells Nacib that he needs Gabriela's birth certificate. Doroteia joins with Florzinha and Quinquina to find out if Sinhazinha is having an affair. Olga discovers the banished book Gerusa is reading. Osmund tells Mundinho about his plan to escape with Sinhazinha. Jesuíno stranges the delay of his wife.

Malvina speaks with Juvenal about his brother and he starts feeling closer to the girl. Sinhazinha tries to prevent Jesuíno from having sex with her. Doroteia asks her son Amâncio to beat Sinhazinha's maid during the festival. The priest gives Nacib some bad news about Gabriela. Lindinalva tries to drown herself at the beach.

Juvenal rescues Lindinalva. Mundinho advises Osmundo not to meet Sinhazinha. Malvina rebels when her father warns her about her marriage. Juvenal falls in love with Lindinalva. Dorothea prevents the priest from performing Gabriela's wedding. Mundinho Falcão makes another move to gain the trust of the colonels. After some more bad news, Tonico decides to help Nacib. Doroteia tells Jesuíno that his wife is having an affair.

Jesuino walks in the dentist's room and finds out about his wife's affair. Mundinho begins a special newspaper investigation for the death of his friend. Berto is beaten for disrespecting another virgin girl. Melk tell Malvina that she will marry Berto. Gabriela and Nacib talk about love and betrayal.

Berto returns to Ilhéus and argues with Juvenal over Lindinalva. Malvina becomes outraged after learning about her arranged wedding and rebels against her parents. Josué hides from colonel Coriolano with the help of Glória. Jesuíno cries after the loss of Sinhazinha and misses her. Mayor Ramiro tells Nacib that he will help him to marry Gabriela.

Ramiro convinces the priest to accept Nacib's marriage. Tonico forges Gabriela's birth certificate. During the wedding, Gerusa flees to meet her lover once again but her aunt uses that secret for her benefit. Colonel Melk catches Malvina kissing Rómulo and punishes her. Tonico and Zarolha plot to break Gabriela and Nacib.

Zarolha proposes Tonico an exchange of favors. Prince Sandra and Anabela celebrate the heist they pulled on one of the colonels. Juvenal declares his love for Lindinalva. Berto is slapped at the Bataclã and Maria Machadão helps one of her girls. Zarolha pretends to be interested in meeting Gabriela.

Berto threatens to beat up Lindinalva but Juvenal protects her. Maria Machadão advises Lindinalva. Teodora is furious to see that Juvenal cares about Lindinalva. Anabela speaks to Ramiro and tries to seduce him. Lindinalva and Juvenal fall in love for each other. Rómulo confesses a shocking secret to Malvina. Zarolha meets Gabriela and becomes closer to her.

Maria Machadão becomes enfuriated to learn that Lindinalva has fled from Ilhéus. Juvenal starts a campaign to find Lindinalva. Zarolha continues to poison Nacib against Gabriela. Fagundes and Clemente discover Lindinalva's body. Gabriela meets with the Catholic women at the church meeting. Nacib goes out to look for his wife but is unable to find her.

Zarolha's plan to break Nacib and Gabriela fails but she receives heart-warming news. Colonel Coriolano arrives home early and Josué is forced to hide in Gória's wardrobe. Fagundes and Clemente agree to keep Lindinalva safe. Doroteia tells Ramiro about Gerusa's dates with Mundinho. Colonel Jesuíno is warned about his upcoming trial. Gabriela tells Nacib that she can no longer be a "civilized" lady.

Nacib forbids Gabriela from dancing in the streets. Arminda promises to help Iracema fake her virginity. The dinner at Ramiro Bastos' house takes a funny turn. Malvina mistreats Josué, who seeks comfort next to Glória. Fabiana sees Tonico approaching Gabriela, and blackmails her boss asking for a dress. Lindinalva says to Fagundes and Clemente that Juvenal sent his brother to kill her. Nacib scolds Gabriela for her behavior. Sandra surprises Anabela with Ramiro and threatens to kill them both.

Ramiro realizes that Sandra and Anabela planned a scam and kidnaps them to teach them a lesson. Gerusa asks Mundinho to talk to her grandfather and end their rivalry. Jesuíno testifies at the police station about the murder of Sinhazinha and Osmundo. After knowing what Ramiro did to his friends, Mundinho goes to the colonel's house to argue with him.

Ramiro decides to spare Mundinho's life. Zarolha tries to poison Gabriela against Nacib and Arminda suspects that Zarolha doesn't like Gabriela. Maria Machadão declares herself to Ramiro and states that she is willing to give up the Bataclã for him. Mundinho warns Gerusa that she will have to face his grandfather. Berto shows interest in Zuleika and invites her and her family for dinner. Coriolano asks Josué who is the woman he is having an affair with. Iracema gets ready for her wedding night with Jesuíno.

Iracema succeeds to show trick Jesuíno about her virginity. Fagundes and Clemente offer shelter to Lindinalva. Mundinho suspects that Ramiro is responsible for a crime and tells Douglas to report it in the newspaper. Ramiro orders Gerusa to marry Juvenal. Ramiro sends Melk to set fire to the newspaper building and scare colonel Altino. Arminda realizes that Zarolha is trying to poison Gabriela against Nacib. Gerusa rejects Juvenal's wedding proposal in front of the whole family.

Ramiro insists that Gerusa will marry Juvenal, but she remains in love with Mundinho. Colonel Melk warns Rômulo that he wants to rush Malvina's wedding. Teodora asks Berto to find out who is Miss Pirangi's secret lover. After making himself clear about not wanting Gerusa to marry Mundinho Falcão, Ramiro tells on of his thugs to finish Mundinho, once and for all.

Colonel Melk tells Ramiro Bastos that all the arrangements for the arson and Mundinho's hit are ready. Gerusa asks Malvina to warn Mundinho about his life risk. Fagundes asks Lindinalva in marriage, but she refuses. Ramiro presents Machadão with a ring and asks her to move with him to his cocoa farm. Fagundes fails to hit Mundinho and runs from Ilhéus policemen. Gabriela makes a difficult choice to save a friend.

Gabriela shelters Fagundes at Nacib's house. Mundinho warns Douglas that the newspaper will continue to operate and asks him to rent a new location. Ramiro rescues Fagundes and thanks Gabriela for her favor. Nacib arrives home and Gabriela tries to disguise the situation.

Ramiro, Melk and the other gunmen try to leave Nacib's house unnoticed. Josué fless from colonel Coriolano dressed as a woman and is caught by a familiar face. Tonico flirts with Fabiana and sets up a date. Doroteia encourages Berto to find out who is the gay colonel. Ramiro decides to intern Gerusa at a convent until she gives up on Mundinho. Berto discovers Lindinalva is alive. Olga catches Tonico and Fabiana together.

Olga accuses Fabiana of seducing Tonico and Ramiro fires Fabiana. Fagundes tries to protect Lindinalva and teach Berto a lesson. Berto takes Lindinalva back to the Bataclã. Jesuíno misses Sinhazinha Gabriela and Tuísca plan a date at the circus. Nacib tells Gabriela he bought tickets to the poetry night and makes her come with him instead.

Nacib imposes its authority over Gabriela and decides that they will go to poetry soiree. Tuisca is disappointed to learn that Gabriela will not see him perform. Doroteia plans to put Jesuíno in jail. Zarolha advises Gabriela to go to the circus after the poetry soiree. Gerusa and Mundinho plan to flee Ilhéus after her graduation. Zarolha tells Tonico how to seduce Gabriela.

Zarolha advises Tonico to go to the circus and meet Gabriela. After the soiree, Gabriela goes to the circus without Nacib. Tonico offers a circus ticket to Gabriela, in order to grow closer to her. Lindinalva becomes aggressive towards Juvenal. Ramiro and Mundinho face one another and Mundinho Falcão tells the colonel that he can't control Gerusa's heart. Chico tells Nacib that Gabriela was at the circus.

Tonico invites Gabriela, Arminda and Tuisca to ride a car. Mundinho tells Ramiro that he will win the elections and marry Gerusa. Suspicious that Melk is Miss Pirangi's colonel, Doroteia, Florzinha e Quinquina talk to Marialva about her husband. Olga gossips around saying that colonel Melk is gay. Melk finds the origin of the rumors about him and goes to Amâncio's house to settle debts with Doroteia.

Juvenal suggests going to the Bataclã and ask Miss Pirangi about his lover. Malvina and Gerusa plan spending the night with their boyfriends without both their parents knowing. Nacib realizes Gabriela is happy again. Tonico visits Gabriela and gives her a gift that leaves Gabriela emotional.

Tonico fakes his emotion to seduce Gabriela. Malvina and Gerusa outwit their families to spend the night with their boyfriends. Berto mistreats Zuleika. Doroteia discovers through Osório that Rômulo is married. Mundinho enlists the help of colonel Altino to escape with Gerusa. Doroteia tells Melk that Malvina is dating a married man.

Dorothea feels even for telling colonel Melk that Malvina's boyfriend is married. Altino agrees to help Mundinho to run away with Gerusa. Nacib complains about Gabriela's delay at the inauguration of the town's crib. Fagundes presents Lindinalva with a brooch and she invites him to see the town's crib. Ramiro takes Gerusa to see the festivities and faints.

Juvenal confesses his love for Lindinalva to Teodora. Gabriela becomes hurt after being scolded by Nacib. Teodora helps Juvenal and Lindinalva staying together once again. Juvenal takes Lindinalva to the Bataclã and announces his marriage to her. In a fight with Juvenal, Berto confesses that it was him and Doroteia that planned to kill Lindinalva.

Colonel Amâncio threatens to disinherit Juvenal if he insists in marrying Lindinalva. Nacib gives Gabriela her Christmas gift and Gabriela returns the favor. Juvenal decides to leave his parents' house to live with Lindinalva in Salvador. Zarolha asks Miss Pirangi to spy on Gabriela.

Miss Pirangi refuses to help Zarolha. Gabriela causes a commotion in the village and Gerusa and Malvina join her. Mundinho warns colonel Altino that he will flee with Gerusa. To force Miss Pirangi help her with her plan, Zarolha sneaks into the Bataclã's backdoor and tries to find out who is Miss Pirangi's secret lover.

Zarolha blackmails Miss Pirangi. Nacib notices Gabriela's humor shift. Conceição helps her daughter and Mundinho. Mundinho Falcão promises to marry Gerusa. Doroteia discovers Gerusa and Mundinho's plans.

After realizing that her husband has been cheating on her for a long time, Olga beats Tonico. Zarolha asks Miss Pirangi to deliver a message to Nacib. Doroteia tells colonel Ramiro that Gerusa plans to run away with Mundinho Falcão and Conceição is helping them. After telling the truth to Gabriela and Arminda, Zarolha meets Nacib at the Bataclã.

Ramiro hires Fagundes to kill Mundinho Falcão. Doroteia discovers that Glória is sleeping with Josué. After some problems at the graduation's ball, Gerusa looks for Mundinho but their plans become worthless when Fagundes appears.

Malvina delivers Gerusa a book with a picture of Mundinho. Arminda tries to talk about Gabriela to Nacib, but he refuses to listen to her. Doroteia instructs Quinquina and Florzinha to keep an eye on Malvina. Berto tries to take Lindinalva with him, but is prevented by Fagundes.

Zarolha apologizes to Gabriela. Nacib and Tonico fight. Mundinho is prevented from seeing Gerusa. Tonico is forbidden to leave his house by Olga. Malvina meets Rômulo but Doroteia, Quinquina and Florzinha watch them.
